I like the new art of St Joseph as it depicts him as a young man. St Joseph must be a young man as he was able defend and support the holy family. If he was an old man it would have created suspicion on Mary's part in the society? And also he wouldn't have been able to take his family to Egypt which he did without complained. God would not choose a messy scene.
Agree, he was a Protector and strong. Old Josephs were created to emphasize the fact that he and Our Lady were completely chaste. Bur, we know young men can be celibate and chaste.
