More Americans Renounce Citizenship, With 2014 on Pace for a Record
- By
- LAURA SAUNDERS from WSJ
Significant numbers of people are continuing to renounce their U.S. citizenship or end their long-term U.S. residency.
There are 776 names on the Treasury Department list published Friday for the third quarter of 2014.
That’s the third highest quarterly figure ever, according to Andrew Mitchel, an international tax lawyer in Centerbrook, Conn., who tracks the data. The total number of published renouncers so far in 2014 is 2,353, putting this year on pace to exceed last year’s record total of 2,999, adds Mr. Mitchel.
The Treasury Department is required by law to publish a list of the names of people who renounce quarterly. The list doesn’t indicate when people did so or why. It also doesn’t distinguish between people giving up passports and those turning in green cards, or indicate what other nationality the individuals hold.

About 100 other Swiss financial institutions are currently in a U.S. Justice Department program designed to uncover other secret accounts. Recently, attorneys representing 73 of them protested that the terms of the program were too harsh.
Unlike other developed nations, the U.S. taxes citizens on income they earn anywhere in the world. The rule dates to the Civil War. U.S. tax liabilities can also cover children born to Americans abroad, extending the reach of the Internal Revenue Service across generations as well as oceans. There are only partial offsets for double taxation for people who owe taxes both to the U.S. and a foreign country, and the reporting rules are onerous, experts say.
For decades these laws were rarely enforced. Now, scrutiny of Americans abroad is intensifying because of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, or Fatca, which Congress passed in 2010. The law’s main provisions, which took effect in July, will require foreign financial institutions to report income of their U.S. customers to the IRS.

In the face of famine-like spiritual conditions presently endured by so many throughout so much of Christ’s church it is very easy to pray for those priests, bishops and cardinals whose theology and practice are sound, all too easily forgetting or even dismissing the notion of praying for those prelates whose theology and practice is revolutionary, post-modern, liberal. Nonetheless, it is the latter group for whom it is essential to pray. The truth of such prayer is vividly illustrated in an an encounter I experienced On SS Peter and Paul day some months ago. I happened to be in a large city attending the FSSP TLM. Needing the sacrament of confession, I took my place in the queue prior to mass. Upon entering the booth, I heard a voice unfamiliar to me, not this congregation’s usual confessor nor his assistant, but an older man with a pronounced ‘accah’ Australian accent. I confessed and then let it out a bit (due to the shenanigans in our diocese), things about struggling with the concept of love that has been so distorted etc. to wit I mentioned our bishop. Now, to my surprise, it turns out that this Fr came up with him through the ranks and knows him. What is more, he used to think just like him and believe fully in ‘the revolutionary church’ with all that this entales. But somewhere along the way, someone would have prayed for this courageous Fr. likely over a long period of time and eventually, he saw the light, came across to the FSSP, and is now a hermit for them who assists with confessions on feast-days when attendances are greater. He gave me a summmation of our bishop and told me to listen to Garrrigou- Lagrange. Now, if the likes of this Fr. can be so utterly and completely transformed, so can Cardinal Kaspar, who is of their vintage; the ‘before and after’ vintage. We need to pray more fervently for those priests that are endangering themselves and their flocks for it is easy to sledge them and become angry, all too easy. As you so rightly say, if we’re not praying for them, what chance do they have? If St. Paul could turn to the truth, and the Fr. I have mentioned above then how much more for those souls who have allowed themselves to become entranced by the spirit of the age ; what a marvelous witness for Christ would it be; Kaspar offering a TLM (or even AO), being re-captivated by Christ’s glory, set aflame for truth by Our Lady queen of the Priesthood, and bearing our Lord or Lady into the streets in procession, either in Rome or better still in Germany, saying no to German money on German terms for churches etc, truly kicking the Teutonic luxuries once and for all and opting for the whole truth, which is love, pure and simple.

I have been wondering when to give up the blog as things are heating up.
I am a mum as well as a blogger.
St. Paul wrote under house arrest. He kept going until he could do no more.
The point of not being able to do more is coming soon.
I was warned by God that October was the time of purgatory and transition. But, what comes next is not clear.
So it has been, not only for me, but the entire Church.
I am waiting for the sign to know when to throw in the towel--Malta, then.....I pray that St. Paul tells me what to do next, clearly. This place is my Eden and my Gethsemane.

Acts 28 Douay-Rheims
28 And when we had escaped, then we knew that the island was called Melita. But the barbarians shewed us no small courtesy.
2 For kindling a fire, they refreshed us all, because of the present rain, and of the cold.
3 And when Paul had gathered together a bundle of sticks, and had laid them on the fire, a viper coming out of the heat, fastened on his hand.
4 And when the barbarians saw the beast hanging on his hand, they said one to another: Undoubtedly this man is a murderer, who though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance doth not suffer him to live.
5 And he indeed shaking off the beast into the fire, suffered no harm.
6 But they supposed that he would begin to swell up, and that he would suddenly fall down and die. But expecting long, and seeing that there came no harm to him, changing their minds, they said, that he was a god.
7 Now in these places were possessions of the chief man of the island, named Publius, who receiving us, for three days entertained us courteously.
8 And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever, and of a bloody flux. To whom Paul entered in; and when he had prayed, and laid his hands on him, he healed him.
St.Publius, first bishop and martyr of Malta |
9 Which being done, all that had diseases in the island, came and were healed:
10 Who also honoured us with many honours, and when we were to set sail, they laded us with such things as were necessary.
11 And after three months, we sailed in a ship of Alexandria, that had wintered in the island, whose sign was the Castors.
12 And when we were come to Syracusa, we tarried there three days.
13 From thence, compassing by the shore, we came to Rhegium: and after one day, the south wind blowing, we came the second day to Puteoli;
14 Where, finding brethren, we were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went to Rome.
15 And from thence, when the brethren had heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum, and the Three Taverns: whom when Paul saw, he gave thanks to God, and took courage.
16 And when we were come to Rome, Paul was suffered to dwell by himself, with a soldier that kept him.
17 And after the third day, he called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were assembled, he said to them: Men, brethren, I, having done nothing against the people, or the custom of our fathers, was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans;
18 Who, when they had examined me, would have released me, for that there was no cause of death in me;
19 But the Jews contradicting it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had any thing to accuse my nation of.
20 For this cause therefore I desired to see you, and to speak to you. Because that for the hope of Israel, I am bound with this chain.
21 But they said to him: We neither received letters concerning thee from Judea, neither did any of the brethren that came hither, relate or speak any evil of thee.
22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest; for as concerning this sect, we know that it is everywhere contradicted.
23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came very many to him unto his lodgings; to whom he expounded, testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, out of the law of Moses and the prophets, from morning until evening.
24 And some believed the things that were said; but some believed not.
25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, Paul speaking this one word: Well did the Holy Ghost speak to our fathers by Isaias the prophet,
26 Saying: Go to this people, and say to them: With the ear you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.
27 For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears have they heard heavily, and their eyes they have shut; lest perhaps they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
28 Be it known therefore to you, that this salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it.
29 And when he had said these things, the Jews went out from him, having much reasoning among themselves.
Paul ended up in the Mamertine Prison |
30 And he remained two whole years in his own hired lodging; and he received all that came in to him,
31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, without prohibition.

From the Prophet Amos 8:11- DR
Behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will send forth a famine into the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst of water, but of hearing the word of the Lord. And they shall move from sea to sea, and from the north to the east: they shall go about seeking the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. In that day the fair virgins, and the young men shall faint for thirst.
This is why God so many years ago called for the time of the laity.
Get ready, become holy.
Learn how to become perfect. That holiness and personal trust in God will keep you safe in the Faith in the time of famine, when you shall no longer hear the Truth, except in your own souls.

Pray for those who bear fruit
Do not take the good men for granted.
We must pray for our leaders. Daily.
Pray they continue to bear fruit in and out of season.
Into Dead Trees Today

Unless on is working on one's spiritual life daily, one will go backwards. Unless we pray for sinners, they will not convert.
The cursed fig tree, a reminder of being cursed for not bearing fruit, reminds me of what has been happening in the past week in Rome.
Those who do not bear fruit will fact Christ's wrath. We do not need to judge, as God will. It is good to understand that the Church has enemies within. But, we do not have to dwell on the cursed fig trees.
Yesterday's reading reminded me of the one we hear in Holy Week. Here it is:
Mark 11:12-25Douay-Rheims
12 And the next day when they came out from Bethania, he was hungry.
13 And when he had seen afar off a fig tree having leaves, he came if perhaps he might find any thing on it. And when he was come to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the time for figs.
14 And answering he said to it: May no man hereafter eat fruit of thee any more for ever. And his disciples heard it.
15 And they came to Jerusalem. And when he was entered into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the chairs of them that sold doves.
16 And he suffered not that any man should carry a vessel through the temple;
17 And he taught, saying to them: Is it not written, My house shall be called the house of prayer to all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves.
18 Which when the chief priests and the scribes had heard, they sought how they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the whole multitude was in admiration at his doctrine.
19 And when evening was come, he went forth out of the city.
20 And when they passed by in the morning they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter remembering, said to him: Rabbi, behold the fig tree, which thou didst curse, is withered away.
22 And Jesus answering, saith to them: Have the faith of God.
23 Amen I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed and be cast into the sea, and shall not stagger in his heart, but believe, that whatsoever he saith shall be done; it shall be done unto him.
24 Therefore I say unto you, all things, whatsoever you ask when ye pray, believe that you shall receive; and they shall come unto you.
25 And when you shall stand to pray, forgive, if you have aught against any man; that your Father also, who is in heaven, may forgive you your sins.
Remember, the important point here is that it was not the season for figs.
Why would Christ curse a tree which is not in season?
He is showing us several things. The first is that we must bear fruit even out of season, when we do not feel like it, when we are not on top of the world, when we are in the Dark Night.
Second, God shows us the power of prayer. If we bless something, it will be blessed.
Pray today for Cardinal Kasper and all the enemies of truth. He can be converted and if we keep saying how horrible he is, he may stay that way. I do not want anyone to go to hell. I want Kasper to become a saint.
Bless him and all like him. Bless and do not curse.
Pray for our enemies, even those within the gates before the great cleansing.
