To Destroy Concupiscence

A few weeks ago in prayer, an inspiration came to me that one could be completely freed from concupiscence. Now, I have never had a spiritual director tell me this, or have I ever heard a priest preach or teach this. I have never been taught that one can be free of the tendency towards sin.

However, in that moment of insight, I could see that if God was moving one away from venial sin, and if one was working on the imperfections, concupiscence would be silenced and eventually disappear. One is not doomed to live in the throes of Original Sin.

Today, reading Fr. Alphonsus Rodriguez, in his second volume of  The Practice of Christian Religious Perfection, I found this quotation from St. Augustine:

"The diminution of concupiscence is the increase of charity and the greatest perfection consists in having our concupiscence quite extinguished."

Praise God! So, what the Holy Spirit put in my head two weeks ago or so is that if one continues to cooperate with the graces of purification, concupiscence becomes a thing of the past, as one moves out of the consequences of Original Sin into Illumination and Unity.

I am not there by any stretch of the imagination, but the Holy Spirit was encouraging me.  When the inordinate and unruly love of self and love of the world disappear, and when the love of God takes over one's heart, mind, soul, body, concupiscence dies.

Death to self-will forms the basis for all of this movement of the soul to God.

So, why do priests and bishops not talk about this? Because they have not let themselves suffer through purgation. Some have, like Bishop Schneider and Cardinal Burke, who see things clearly, because the world, the flesh and the devil have been, like scales, taken away from their eyes.

Those of us who are not religious, but who are called to aid others in their spiritual lives, even by writing, encouraging, listening, giving advice in the world, are instructed by Fr. Rodriguez, to do mortification in order to become more perfect and a real servant. No one should be ministering in any capacity in the Church as a lay person unless one is willing to be purged of egotism, self-will. I have many posts on this fact.

And, again, I am encouraged in my way after reading in Rodriguez one of my favorite passages used in other posts on this blog.

"The kingdom of God is at hand and the violent are taking it by storm."

We need to be violent with ourselves as I have noted here. Rodriguez quotes St. Gregory the Great:

"It is he, who, after this manner, having broken down the rampart of his passions, ascends with violence to the kingdom of heaven."

Father Xavier told me at the retreat in March that, yes, it is possible to be free from all venial sins.

To even be free of concupiscence provides another impetus to be violent with one's self regarding mortification.

Suggestions for mortification:
  • Eat less
  • Eat less meat
  • Give up desserts, candy
  • Give up snacks
  • Sleep on the floor
  • Drink less alcohol
  • Never complain or mention pain except to your doctor
  • Do not go to the doctor unless something is serious
  • Endure ridicule peacefully
  • Reflect constantly on actions
  • Do not tolerate any evil or imperfect thoughts
  • Never fantasize
  • Never waste time
  • Correct faults immediately
  • Confess sins weekly if possible
  • Go to daily Mass and Adoration
  • Pray as much as possible for yourself and others
  • Leave off complaining entirely
  • Be humble about your real needs
  • Never tolerate your predominant fault
  • Live out of two or three suitcases of clothes and shoes only
  • Wives, truly be obedient to your good Catholic husbands in matters of religion
  • Children, be obedient to your good Catholic parents

I shall do more soon on this book. Here are some similar posts.

    Misunderstanding the Third Commandment

    There is an odd memorial in Upper State New York I have seen several times which notes that past this marker, there is no Sunday observance.

    This marker noted the end of Christian influence and civilization in long ago colonial days.

    The end of Sunday observance practically forms one boundary of the Adirondack State Park area.

    Even today, as I have lived up there for months in the recent past, Sunday is simply not kept by the vast majority of people. The Ten Commandments were apparently set aside early on in that part of the States.

    As the CCC states, the Ten Commandments are the moral voice of God, reminding us of our own moral voice, the conscience, reminding man of natural law.

    The Ten Commandments are not extras, but fundamentals, all based on the natural duties man has towards God and other men.

    The Catholic Church teaches an important point-all the commandments may be known by reason.

    Revelation underscores reason, and makes the commandments key to the life of the followers of God.

    Today, at nine in the morning, I was reminded that America is a nation of pagans. Grass cutting, weed clipping, pruning of trees and hedges all commenced, as if these things could not be done on Saturday or other days.

    These jobs in this area are done by lawn contractors, who have their own businesses and could choose not to work on Sundays.

    Only those who absolutely must work on Sundays, like nurses, doctors, firefighters, police and so on are given a pass to work on Sunday. Primary care workers and people in industries who cater to travellers who must travel, must work. Soldiers in the field must work on Sunday. Priests and those involved in ministries must work on Sunday.

    Americans have forgotten God, and His Day.

    However, when I was a child, restaurants were all closed on Sunday. This is true of many places in Malta, although sadly, the big shops are now open. I remember when gas stations were closed on Sunday. Big stores for sure....

    and some little ones...

    I remember when shops were all closed on Sunday in Iowa. My mother remembers the silence of Sundays in St. Louis.

    To purposefully and carelessly break the Sunday work-ban is to commit grave sin.

    I grew up in Protestant territory and no one, not the Lutherans or Methodists or Presbyterians, cut grass or worked in the gardens on Sunday.

    Garden shops were closed as well.

    In one Midwest town and in another town in another state, the Catholic schools had to create their own league for soccer, as the public schools changed all the games to the morning of Sundays.

    This type of scheduling is sinful and unnecessary.

    St. James notes that to break one of the commandments is to break them all as there is a unity in the following of the law.

    Before I continue. a few notes from the CCC. Notice the last note--God does not ask the impossible. We make choices.

    2075 "What good deed must I do, to have eternal life?" - "If you would enter into life, keep the commandments" (Mt 19:16-17).
    2076 By his life and by his preaching Jesus attested to the permanent validity of the Decalogue.
    2077 The gift of the Decalogue is bestowed from within the covenant concluded by God with his people. God's commandments take on their true meaning in and through this covenant.
    2078 In fidelity to Scripture and in conformity with Jesus' example, the tradition of the Church has always acknowledged the primordial importance and significance of the Decalogue.
    2079 The Decalogue forms an organic unity in which each "word" or "commandment" refers to all the others taken together. To transgress one commandment is to infringe the whole Law (cf. Jas 2:10-11).
    2080 The Decalogue contains a privileged expression of the natural law. It is made known to us by divine revelation and by human reason.
    2081 The Ten Commandments, in their fundamental content, state grave obligations. However, obedience to these precepts also implies obligations in matter which is, in itself, light.
    2082 What God commands he makes possible by his grace.

    Some playing fields for sport are still closed on Sunday in Scotland. Some places here are closed on Sundays. Support those, like the one below...

    That the West allowed work on Sunday, which occurred under the greed and avarice of the Industrial Revolution, as feeding animals and mucking out barns would be considered necessary and still are, was the beginning of the death of the West.

    People point to sexual sins as serious and these are, but working on Sunday, part of the first three commandments which owe God worship and justice, creates a godless society, one no longer focused on true worship of God, prayer, or reflection.

    A day of grace and rest from work
    2184 Just as God "rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done,"121 human life has a rhythm of work and rest. The institution of the Lord's Day helps everyone enjoy adequate rest and leisure to cultivate their familial, cultural, social, and religious lives.122
    2185 On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord's Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body.123 Family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse from the obligation of Sunday rest. The faithful should see to it that legitimate excuses do not lead to habits prejudicial to religion, family life, and health.
    The charity of truth seeks holy leisure- the necessity of charity accepts just work.124
    2186 Those Christians who have leisure should be mindful of their brethren who have the same needs and the same rights, yet cannot rest from work because of poverty and misery. Sunday is traditionally consecrated by Christian piety to good works and humble service of the sick, the infirm, and the elderly. Christians will also sanctify Sunday by devoting time and care to their families and relatives, often difficult to do on other days of the week. Sunday is a time for reflection, silence, cultivation of the mind, and meditation which furthers the growth of the Christian interior life.

    2187 Sanctifying Sundays and holy days requires a common effort. Every Christian should avoid making unnecessary demands on others that would hinder them from observing the Lord's Day. Traditional activities (sport, restaurants, etc.), and social necessities (public services, etc.), require some people to work on Sundays, but everyone should still take care to set aside sufficient time for leisure. With temperance and charity the faithful will see to it that they avoid the excesses and violence sometimes associated with popular leisure activities. In spite of economic constraints, public authorities should ensure citizens a time intended for rest and divine worship. Employers have a similar obligation toward their employees.
    2188 In respecting religious liberty and the common good of all, Christians should seek recognition of Sundays and the Church's holy days as legal holidays. They have to give everyone a public example of prayer, respect, and joy and defend their traditions as a precious contribution to the spiritual life of society. If a country's legislation or other reasons require work on Sunday, the day should nevertheless be lived as the day of our deliverance which lets us share in this "festal gathering," this "assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven."125

    That many places of work now demand unnecessary work on Sunday actually is a tyranny against Christians. Some drug stores or chemists only have the pharmacies open on Sundays, which is reasonable, but to have the entire day of shopping open, making people work long hours, is a crime against God.

    God will judge severely those owners who make money by forcing labor on Sunday. This situation has caused great injustice in America and other places.

    Shopping and working are idols here. Idolatry of money (Mammon is a demon) and the capital sin of Avarice undermine the lives of millions of people who may not have a choice to not work on Sunday.

    But, one does not have to work in the home, do laundry, do yard work, work on cars and so on.

    If one owns a business, one cannot make the workers work on Sunday.

    Some people think that they are blessed when they get rich or prosperous. God is not the god of money. Prosperity may very well be from satan, not God.

    No longer is the "common good" considered but only personal wealth. Avarice has destroyed Catholic communities, which even in my lifetime, would get together on Sundays.

    We are the "Sunday People", an ancient phrase from a Catholic who was asked why he was going to Mass on Sunday.  To work on purpose when it can be avoided is a serious sin.

    Did you know that Sunday was a day for engaging in the corporal and spiritual works of mercy?

    I remind all of these:

    The corporal works of mercy are:
    • To feed the hungry;
    • To give drink to the thirsty;
    • To clothe the naked;
    • To harbour the harbourless;
    • To visit the sick;
    • To ransom the captive;
    • To bury the dead.
    The spiritual works of mercy are:
    • To instruct the ignorant;
    • To counsel the doubtful;
    • To admonish sinners;
    • To bear wrongs patiently;
    • To forgive offences willingly;
    • To comfort the afflicted;
    • To pray for the living and the dead.
    These are not options, but duties.

    America is a pagan nation. The spiritual and corporal works of mercy to be done especially on Sunday have been forgotten. I am moving to nowhere soon. That would be a corporal work of mercy for someone to take me in...I instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, admonish sinners, bear wrongs more and more patiently, forgive offences willingly, comfort the afflicted and pray for the living and the dead. Not having a car, I cannot visit the sick, but I do give water to workmen if they are in the vicinity, and I do pass on clothes readily if needed, if I can.

    As a very poor person, I am limited in my ability to do the corporal works of mercy, but one can be creative.

    I can phone a sick person and pray with them, or encourage them, if I cannot get to them. Thankfully, in most cities past Ohio, buses do not run on Sunday. This is a hang-over from the times when shops were shut. Better if all the shops would shut.

    Sunday is the day to really do these works of mercy.

    If one is not choosing to be a "Sunday Person", one mocks the very Eucharist we receive on this day.

    Justin Martyr gave us the name... First Apology 67:
    On the day called Sunday all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen….
    But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior in the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.

    Update-when I chose this passage from Justin, I did not know it would be in Monday's Office of Readings--synchronicity.

    Consider your own Sunday observance. Believe that the Lord will bless you, if not now, in heaven, for keeping His Day holy.

    From Kathy Sinnott in Ireland

    Dear Friends,

    We have just received notice that the Supreme Court will give Judgement in the Childrens Rights Referendum Challenge Friday next, 24th April at 12 noon in the Supreme Court.

    432/13 Jordan & Referendum Act 1994 342 & 361/14 Jordan v Min for Children & ors

    Given the McCrystal judgement and the strength of the case,, we are very hopeful that the Supreme Court will protect our right as citizens  to referenda without illegal interference from government. If the Supreme Court gives a favourable judgement in the petition the Childrens Rights Referendum result will be void and a rerun will be called by the court. If a favourable judgement is handed down in the plenary case, sections of the Referendum Act will be declared unconstitutional and will have to be amended in a way that protects the citizens right to fair referenda and the result  of the Childrens Rights Referendum will be void.
    I am attaching two Notes. one gives background to the Jordan case and the other recaps the provisions of the Childrens Rights amendment.
    Everyone is welcome to attend at the Supreme Court for the reading of the judgement next Friday April 24th.
    Please keep this case in your prayers and support.
    God bless

    Recommended by a Reader Today-a Great Book!

    http://www.catholictradition.org/Classics/4last-things.htm

    The Four Last Things by Father Martin von Cochem is one most older Catholics would recognize. But, in recent times, priests have shied away from talking about the real deal of judgment, death, heaven and hell.

    Preaching about love is always superior to preaching about punishment, but in our day, the entire long tradition of the Church on the Last Four Things has all but been forgotten.

    I have referred to this book before on the blog and now I find that is, as the reader noted, should be required reading for all Catholics.

    The section on mortal sin should be a must for all who are confused about the seriousness of mortal sin.

    Most people do not think of death as bringing judgment. Some think one's soul merely merges with God's. Some people actually do not believe in the afterlife.

    Everytime we pray the Hail Mary, we ask Our Lady to pray for us now and at the hour of our death.

    The reason is that time is satan's last chance to snatch us away from God. The grace of final perseverance is a special grace, about which I have written. Look at the tag, "grace".

    Here is a snippet from Father Cochem on this point.

    The evil spirits will tempt their unhappy victim at the moment of death on various points, but especially in regard to the sins into which he has most frequently fallen. If during his lifetime he has cherished hatred towards any one, they will conjure up before his dying eyes the image of that person, rehearsing all he did to injure him, in order to revive the flame of hate towards that enemy, or kindle it anew. Or if any one has transgressed against purity, they will show him the accomplice of his sin, and strive to awaken the guilty passion felt for that individual. If he has been troubled with doubts concerning faith, they recall to his mind the article of belief which he had difficulty in accepting, representing it to him as untrue. If a man has a tendency to pusillanimity, the evil spirits encourage it in him, that they may perchance rob him of his hope of salvation. The man who has sinned through pride, and boasted of his good works, they seek to ensnare by flattery, assuring him that he stands high in the favour of God, and all he has done cannot fail to secure him a place in Heaven. Again, if in his lifetime a man has given way to impatience, allowing himself to be angry and irritated by every trifle, they make his illness appear most irksome to him that he may become impatient, and rebel against God for having sent upon him so painful a malady.

    Or if he has been tepid and indevout, without fervour in prayer or assiduity in his religious exercises they try to maintain in his soul this state of apathy, suggesting to him that his physical weakness is too great even to allow him to join in the prayers his friends read to him. Finally, they tempt those who have led a godless life, and repeatedly fallen into mortal sin, to despair, representing their transgressions to be so great as to be past forgiveness. In a word, the spirits of evil assail mortals at the moment of death most fiercely at their most vulnerable point, just as a skillful general will storm a fortress on the side where he perceives the ramparts to be weakest.

    But the devils do not always confine themselves to tempting a man in regard to his chief failings and predominant faults; they frequently tempt him to sins of which he has not hitherto been guilty. For these crafty foes spare no pains to deceive the dying, and if they fail in one way, they attempt to succeed in another. These temptations are of no ordinary character. They are sometimes so violent that it is impossible for weak mortals to resist them without supernatural assistance. If it is all that any one in good health can do to withstand the assaults of the devil, and even such a one is often overcome by them, how difficult must it be for one who is enfeebled by sickness to struggle against foes so formidable!

    Pray for purification on this earth so that your last minutes find you at peace with God.

    First-world problems hide the truth that most Catholics do not see what is looming.

    Too many are complaining about their lawn-service, or their Internet connection, or something which the majority of the people in the world do not have.

    This culture is caught up in trivia.

    Cell phones, tvs, cars, etc. distract attention from what is really important.

    Souls.

    In the past three weeks, contemplating hell and purgatory, I have realized in prayer how many people are going to hell. The vast majority...

    I have tried to communicate these meditations on this blog.

    We do not have much time to evangelize. People say to me, "Why do you write so much?" Because soon we bloggers will be shut down by new hate laws and laws aimed at Catholics.

    Simple--now is the time for truth, teaching, sharing, which will come to an end.

    Since 2007, I have written on these themes. Since 1997, I have spoken about these things in and out of classrooms and study groups. Once it is legal to have gay-marriage, this country is no longer Christian.

    Layers of sulphur and ashes may be found in the area where the cities stood.

    Let us remember what Christ, Our Lord said:

    Matthew 10

    These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’[c] Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers,[d] cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment. Take no gold, or silver, or copper in your belts, 10 no bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for laborers deserve their food.11 Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave. 12 As you enter the house, greet it. 13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town. 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

    Notes on Cardinal George

    Many years ago, before Fr. Z., posted this on his blog as a daily read, I heard this quotation from someone in Chicago I knew who was living there and involved in the Church.

    “I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the Church has done so often in human history.”

    By the time Cardinal George, RIP, said this, I was already writing on both of my blogs about persecution. To have a highly respected and major Churchman underscore my perceptions made me sure of my own sense of things-confirmation, in other words.

    We are down to the successor dying in prison now... and things will happen very quickly.

    For me, the turning point regarding Cardinal George was way back in 2002, when my son and I were watching the USCCB meeting on sexual abuse cases. This was live on tv in Canada where we were living. At that time, Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, was rude to both George and Bishop Fabian Brusketwiz of Lincoln, Neb. as they were asking for a real examination of the role of homosexual priests in the sexual abuse cases. Bishop Gregory told them to shut up and sit down that the issue would not be discussed and had nothing to do with sexual abuse cases.  The two brave bishops tried several times and were dismissed rudely.

    watched it happen and was shocked, but then realized, the Church at the very top was divided on the gay issue. I said to my son, then 14, that this was the state of the members of the hierarchy in 2002. He went into the seminary with his eyes open.

    The fact that Bishop Wilton was so rude to Cardinal George astounded me and proved what I had accepted earlier, that the bishops in America were not willing to discuss homosexuality among the clergy. This is still a problem and not only in America. Some shield their priests. Some, most likely, are gay.

    Cardinal George and Bishop Brusketwiz's courage in standing up against the majority feeling at the USCCB meeting gives authority to his famous saying above. He had already experienced persecution and rejection among his own brother-bishops.

    His famous quotation comes out of his own striving for truth and from his own suffering. Sadly, he inherited a huge problem from his predecessor, Cardinal Bernadine.  More on this later...

    Pray for Cardinal George. Pray for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

    Ta muchly for considering...

    Consolation in Desolation

    “The patient man is better than the valiant.” 27 God is pleased with a person who practices mortification by fasting, hair-cloths, and disciplines, on account of the courage displayed in such mortifications; but he is much more pleased with those who have the courage to bear patiently and gladly such crosses as come from His Own Divine hand. St. Francis de Sales said, "Such mortifications as come to us from the hand of God, or from men by His permission, are always more precious than those which are the offspring of our own will; for it is a general rule, that wherever there is less of our own choice, God is better pleased, and we ourselves derive greater profit." 28 St. Teresa taught the same thing: "We gain more in one day by the oppositions which come to us from God or our neighbor than by ten years of mortifications of self infliction."

    St Alphonsus wrote this.

    All this time, I thought and had heard from spiritual fathers, that mortifications chosen were more worthy than those just given. but apparently some of the great saints tell us otherwise.

    Suddenly, I feel blessed in all these trials which I have to face. Praise God, as I am learning patience.

    St. Francis de Sales notes that these sufferings from God teach us patience and longsuffering. This is so true.

    St. Teresa of Avila's comment brings consolation, as today was one of those days of oppositions from God, and even friends.

    So be it.

    " 29 Wherefore St. Mary Magdalene of Pazzi made the generous declaration, that there could not be found in the whole world an affliction so severe, but what she would gladly bear with the thought that it came from God; and, in fact, during the five years of severe trial which the Saint underwent, it was enough to restore peace to her soul to remember that it was by the will of God that she so suffered."

    Generosity of spirit is key, not being stingy in one's attitude towards God.

    "One day St. Gertrude asked our Lord what she could offer Him most acceptable, and He replied, "My child, thou canst do nothing more gratifying to Me than to submit patiently to all the tribulations that befall thee." Wherefore the great servant of God, Sister Victoria Angelini, affirmed that one day of crucifixion was worth a hundred years of all other spiritual exercises. And the Venerable Father John of Avila said, "One 'blessed be God' in contrarieties is worth more than a thousand thanksgivings in prosperity." Alas, how little men know of the inestimable value of afflictions endured for God! " http://www.basilica.org/pages/ebooks/St.%20Alphonsus%20Liguori-The%20Practice%20of%20the%20Love%20of%20Jesus%20Christ.pdf

    Well, I am finally learning...praise God. Can I add up my days of crucifixion, the worst of which  or not seeing STS, or not being able to use one gifts, or not being able worship God as He deserves because of frailty, distance, poverty?

    To be emptied of all desires is truly a gift from God.

    One more quotation:

     "To attain union with God, adversities are indispensable; because by them God aims at destroying all our corrupt propensities within and without. And hence all injuries, contempts, infirmities, abandonment of relatives and friends, confusions, temptations, and other mortifications, all are in the highest degree necessary for us, in order that we may carry on the fight, until by repeated victories we come to extinguish within us all vicious movements, so that they are no longer felt; and we shall never arrive at Divine union until adversities, instead of seeming bitter to us, become all sweet for God's sake." It follows, then, that a soul that sincerely desires to belong to God must be resolved as St. John of the Cross 26 writes, not to seek enjoyments in this life, but to suffer in all things; she must embrace with eagerness all voluntary mortifications, and with still greater eagerness those which are involuntary, since they are the more welcome to Almighty God."

    Prayer from St. Alphonsus for this intention:

    My dear and beloved Jesus, my treasure, I have deserved by my offenses never more to be allowed to love Thee; but by Thy merits, I entreat Thee, make me worthy of Thy pure love. I love Thee above all things; and I repent with my whole heart of having ever despised Thee, and driven Thee from my soul; but now I love Thee more than myself; I love Thee with all my heart, O infinite good! I love Thee, I love Thee, I love Thee, and I have not a wish besides that of loving Thee perfectly; nor have I a fear besides that of ever seeing myself deprived of Thy love. O my most loving Redeemer, enable me to know how great a good Thou art, and how great is the love Thou hast borne me in order to oblige me to love Thee! Ah, my God, suffer me not to live any longer unmindful of so much goodness! Enough have I offended Thee. I will never leave Thee again; I wish to employ all the remainder of my days in loving Thee, and in pleasing Thee. My Jesus, my Love, lend me Thine aid; help a sinner who wishes to love Thee and to be wholly Thine own. O Mary my hope, thy Son hears thee; pray to Him in my behalf, and obtain for me the grace of loving Him perfectly!

    Cardinal George Died

    https://www.osv.com/Article/TabId/493/ArtMID/13569/ArticleID/17342/Cardinal-Francis-George-dies-at-78.aspx

    Yes, I knew it was down for awhile...but not why until now

    see above for more details..
    Could this be true? Several news websites are reporting that the official Vatican website, vatican.va, was hacked and taken off-line Monday night by Turkish protesters who objected to Pope Francis’ use of the term “genocide” to refer to the killing of 1.5 million Armenians by Turkish forces in 1915.
    • Theodore Shoebat reported on his website that the hacking was done as an act of revenge against Pope Francis for his exposing of the Armenian Genocide.
    • The Stack repeats the story, adding the name of the hacker group:  @THTHerakles.  Reportedly, the London-based hackers will continue to target the website until an apology is issued by Vatican City.
    • And Breitbart reports that the Vatican website was actually hit twice in the span of 24 hours, following Pope Francis’ comments on Sunday describing the killings by soldiers of the Ottoman Empire as “the first genocide of the twentieth century.”
